Organic Coffee in College
Organic Coffee in College, Hot Fall Foods and Coffee Bean Expands
By Tami Yu
Despite students’ tight wallets and current economy woes, more and more kids are choosing to drink organic coffee on college campuses. Catering to high demand, the green movement has finally hit student coffeehouses and other on-site dining services.
Coffee companies such as Caffe Ibis has seen their organic coffee sales increase dramatically in the last year at the University of Utah and Utah State University. Equator Estate Coffees & Teas has been provided organic coffees to the City College of San Francisco since 2007 and is expanding into college food services nationwide. Their coffee service program will soon appear at the University of California-Berkeley, Columbia University and the University of Arizona.
The need for a caffeine is insatiable for pulling those all-nighters. Selling to over 175 colleges and universities, Green Mountain Coffee has seen their sales triple over the past two years with their Fair Trade organic coffee. S&D Coffee also supplies organic, Fair Trade, and Rain Forest Alliance certified coffees to over 400 campuses.
It’s questionable whether drinking organic coffee makes for better studying, but students everywhere can feel good about choosing a product that’s gentler on the environment. Hopefully this will also persuade them to choose organic food over greasy fast food as well.
