Eight O’Clock Coffee, Dark Italian Roast Whole Bean, 11.5-Ounce Bag
Ok this isn’t the BEST coffee i have ever had, but it is pretty good, especially for being as reasonably priced as it is. A burr grinder + french press + these beans = good cup of joe.

Okay, so I’m a bit picky about my coffee beans. If you are reading reviews about whole bean coffee you probably are too. We don’t just buy what’s on sale at the grocery store. We put true consideration into a coffee purchase in that endless quest for the perfect cup of coffee. Well, your quest won’t stop here with this Dark Italian Eight O’Clock. The beans themselves weren’t all that impressive, not dry but not nearly oily enough. The color was too varied, some light colored beans, some dark. The texture was not firm, very hollow and too brittle. The aroma was nice but a bit weak. I ground it extra fine and still used more than usual to get enough flavor. Overall the flavor is good. Bold, and rich and dark but just not quite bold and rich and dark enough. Usually Italian blends include some robusta beans, this one does not. Which is nice. It is good coffee, just not great coffee.

Eight O’clock French Roast has been my #1 favorite store brand, so I decided to try the new Italian. I thought it might have the flavor & body of espresso, but it missed the mark. It makes a good cup of coffee, but French Roast has a fuller, richer flavor for the same price.

Eight O’Clock Coffee, Dark Italian Roast Whole Bean, 11.5-Ounce Bag
Eight O’Clock Dark Italian Roast is a wonderfully dark, oily bean that rivals much more expensive brands like Starbucks and even Peet’s coffee. If you like a rich, dark coffee, this is the one for you.

If you like the taste of coffee as the Italians make it, this might be the closest thing to espresso you will find without using an espresso coffee maker. Using a burr grinder, grind it as finely ground as your grinder will make it. Try filling the coffee container as full as you can and add water to the six cup mark. Sit back and enjoy.
