A better coffee experience.

Keurig promises a better coffee experience–one that is clean, quick, and that produces a delicious beverage as the end result. The B70 (or the KUB70 as you’ll see it named on futureshop.ca) goes beyond the perfect brew and also creates tasty iced drinks, or it can act as a hot water dispenser.

Keurig has addressed the concerns of those who love variety in their coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. There are over 200 varieties of K-cup based beverages; you can purchase them in single flavour packs, or you can mix it up and try something new with their Variety-5 packs. The B70 is a great way to widen your exposure to a whole world of coffee.

Be your own barrista, without the messy cleanup.

After taking the B70 out of the box you’ll notice it’s mostly self-contained. The water resevoir sits on the left hand side of the unit and glows with reflected light from the blue LCD screen on the right. The K-cup mechanism slides open easily, making the task of inserting a K-cup very straightforward. When the unit is ready (assuming you leave it on all the time, it’ll be ready) you can go from start to finish in under a minute, with roughly 30 second between each cup if you’re serving guests. If you’re a little more green it’ll take four minutes to warm up–or you can opt for a timed start-up/shut-off, which is the best of both worlds.

I demoed the unit with a cup of Diedrich as well as some Green Mountain Coffee Hot Cocoa to start. The unit warmed up in under four minutes and the first cup of coffee was ready in under 60 seconds. Inserting the hot chocolate saw a 30 second wait, then about 45 seconds to brew.

You need to rinse the machine after hot chocolate, so just hit brew without a K-cup in and throw the remainder away.

The Diedrich was a medium roast, and tasted decidedly like fresh brewed coffee. It wasn’t the single best cup of coffee ever, but it was firmly in the good coffee category. Factoring in the time of preparation and I’d say it’s an excellent blend (hah!) of taste, price per cup, and speed to cup.

The hot cocoa was just as quick to prepare, and was surprisingly creamy. The taste started off a bit thin, but a quick stir restored it to a full bodied state. Much like the coffee, the cocoa produced a pleasant aroma from the cup, but not from the machine.

The efficiency in preparation, the speed, and the facility of variety of flavours–all ready within a few minutes–makes the Keurig B70 a pretty awesome choice as your primary coffee machine.
